Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail Running through California, Oregon and Washington, the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) is known for its scenic views, ranging terrains and changes in elevation as it connects Mexico and Canada. Try a small section for a day trip or spend the season crossing the nation by foot or by horse. Spanning 2,650 mi (4,240 km) the PCT does not permit motorized vehicle use and permits are required. Those making it across the entire trail will cross 60 major mountain passes, go through 19 canyons, pass more than 1,000 lakes and wander through seven national parks. Tahoe Rim Trail The trail is 165 miles long and two feet wide and is open to hiking, equestrians, and mountain biking. The trail encompasses the ridge tops of the Lake Tahoe Basin, crossing six counties, and two states. The Tahoe Rim Trail meets up with about 50 miles of the Pacific Crest National Scenic Trail. |
